Persist is my entry for Ludum Dare 26 game jam with the theme Minimalism, developed in under 48 hours. It's a small story about a spirit, who is trying to reach a mysterious Goddess to ask for forgiveness for his past sins, but the Goddess really resents him and is trying her hardest to keep the spirit from reaching her, stealing his body parts and various skills with them.
Can you redeem your soul and reach salvation? Or are you doomed to lose all hope, and your whole existence, in the Goddess' deep and dark dungeons?

Anyway, making an actual complette story with morale, out of a 48h made game, and with designs what make sense
(Earth you just left for 1st level, water when you can't swim, fire when things get harder then air when you are litteraly "air")
is pure genius.
The leveldesign and changes of rules are smart, the dificulty is not easy (as some parts requiere to be precise on jumps/timeing)
but as every try-and-die the game need patience and end being not that hard after some practice, and even enjoyable on 2nd play.
The charadesigns of "the empress" for the unforgiving godess, and this spirit trapped into his stubborn redemption like a "prisoner"
of his own will also make complette sense when you end the story and know who really they are.
Also, beautiful morale...So real yet so forgotten of most of pepoles...
"Miracles can happend, but only if you do your best to make them real. Just giving up and waiting for them serves nothing"
Seriously, this would have been submited for a DD, or something equivalent for "undiscovered deviations". Minimalism does not mean
bad games, and this game is a perfect exemple of it. Keep up your amazing work ! Also, the music is perfect for what you created ^^
Critiquers often see way more thing than the artist intended to make, like litterature teachers I suppose,
but even if minimalist, this game really is a piece of pixel-art, in all the ways we can interpret the expression.
After all, minimalism also is a genre in classical arts, so why not in games too ? ^^
What a beautiful moral have this game
If the music were to be made on Famitracker, I could imagine it being played on a NES!
